Get to Know Queen Anne Lutheran Church
Queen Anne Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, located in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. We are a community of faith committed to the mission of proclaiming
“God’s love in Christ for every person.”
We welcome people of all cultures, races, sexual orientations, and gender identities. While many members live nearby, others come from across the greater metro area.
Our shared faith—rooted in baptism and the celebration of the Lord’s Table—is expressed through vibrant liturgy, lifelong learning, and acts of care. We aim to help people recognize God’s presence in the world and live their faith with purpose.
Who Are We?
PASTORAL TRANSITION: After ten years of service to our congregation, Rev. Dr. Dan Peterson resigned his position for family reasons on September 1, 2026. We are thus in the midst of the transition process. During September, we will have various guest pastors at Sunday worship. We expect to have an Interim Pastor in place sometime in October, 2026, who will stay with us until we select and call a permanent pastor. In the ELCA process, this whole trajectory is the congregation’s effort, with ample support, resources, and guidance from the Synod, and it may take several months. Meanwhile, we continue to worship together every week, serve our neighbors, organize educational forums, and host Fine Arts and other events for the broader community. We invite you to visit us! Please explore this website to learn more about the congregation, and check this space for staff updates.
Office Hours: Until a pastor has arrived, please contact the church office for any needs.
KYLE HAUGEN joined our staff in March 2019 as full-time Cantor, serving as organist, director of parish ensembles, and coordinator of fine arts events. A native of Tacoma, WA, he holds degrees from the University of Puget Sound and Luther Seminary/St. Olaf College. His choral compositions have been performed, recorded, and broadcast nationwide since 2001, earning recognition from the American Choral Directors Association and “Editor’s Choice” honors from a leading distributor. Since 2018, Kyle has been Artistic Director of Northwest Repertory Singers in Tacoma and freelances as a choral tenor in the Seattle area. He has directed school and church ensembles, led an international tour, and conducted the 250-voice Northwest Reformation 500 celebration choir. Kyle also serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians.
Office Hours: Kyle is in the building on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings, and often rehearses his organ music on Saturdays.
BARBARA BASH, our Parish Administrator, taught elementary school in Seattle for ten years and worked as a graphic designer before that, art directing a small fishing magazine and working with various other publications. Barb grew up in the Lutheran church in Minneapolis, Minnesota and is happy to be surrounded once again by the Lutheran community.
Office Hours: Feel free to stop by to introduce yourself; she’s typically in the office Tuesday-Friday from 9:00 – 5:30.
Our sexton is JOHN BRYANT. His job is to walk through and secure the building each night, and to help with setting up chairs and tables for events. John is a nearby neighbor who brought his previous beloved dog Guinness, a Bouvier des Flandres, to our church on several occasions for the Blessing of the Animals, and is currently raising Jetson, another Bouvier. John has had his own landscaping business for 12 years and was a swim coach for 12 years before that. Please greet him warmly if you happen upon him!
God’s love is for everybody.
We are a Reconciling in Christ congregation. This means we strive to be an inclusive community welcoming people of all cultures, races, sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.
We embrace the work of anti-racism, social
and economic justice, and environmental care.
