Earth Ministry:
Environmental & Climate Action

QALC is creating a community of hope and action in the face of a changing world. To this end, we work together to create learning opportunities, engage with partners, and advocate in ways that will help us all sustain the environment around us and reduce our carbon footprint.

The Environmental Stewardship and Faith Group is an ad hoc team of people interested in how we as a community of faith and as individuals can respond to the climate crisis unfolding in our world.

This group plans various events and educational opportunites throughout the year.

As part of our Earth Ministry, we are proud to partner with Ridwell. Learn More »

Lutheran World Relief

Lutheran World Relief (LWR) is an international nonprofit organization specializing in International Development and Disaster Relief. It was headquartered in New York, but has been based in Baltimore, Maryland since 1995. LWR promotes sustainable development by helping communities increase the quality of life, engage in Fair Trade, and be better equipped to handle emergencies.

At QALC we are actively involved in sourcing, assembling, and managing the logistics to provide aid to communities both within the United States and around the world. These include

  • school kits for children without the basic essentials for learning

  • personal care kits for those who suddenly find themselves without shelter due to natural disasters or other

  • Sewing quilts to keep people warm on cold nights after a disaster or during war.

  • Sewing blankets for baby kits that provide essential clothing and accessories

Core Tanzania

Jeannette and Michael Banobi, members of Queen Anne Lutheran Church, have created a nonprofit organization working to give children in rural Tanzania a chance to get a quality education—CORE Tanzania. Their first step was to build and operate a new primary school in Bushasha village.

Throughout the year, there are many ways the QALC Parish supports Core Tanzania.

If you’d like to know more about CORE Tanzania and the most recent updates at Twegashe School, you can visit their website at www.coretanzania.org or contact Jeanette.

Queen Anne Food Bank

Throughout the year QALC hold drives to supply food and collects donations to fund one of the most important sources of nourishment for our community.

The Queen Anne Food Bank at Sacred Heart provides healthy food-assistance to our neighbors in this big beautiful world.

They serve everyone who comes to our door with a smile, with respect and without discrimination. Our neighbors and friends are provided high-protein sandwiches, yogurt, fruits, bread, pastries, and hot soups. Monday to Friday: 52 weeks a year.

Queen Anne Help Line

QAHL provides financial and basic needs assistance to seniors, families and individuals facing hardship or short-term crises.

QALC has provided financial assistance, has made our facilities available and provided volunteers for the annual July QAHL Crown of Queen Anne Run-Walk (“Run for Home”).

Community Lunch

Each Tuesday in November we supply and serve meals for about 250 hungry people, working in three shifts between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. About ten volunteers needed each day.

New Horizons Ministries

New Horizons provides food and shelter to unhoused youth in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle. Our church provides a meal to their approximately 40 guests every “fifth Friday” throughout the year. We also offer financial support and conduct occasional clothing and care item drives during the year

Regugee Aid & Resettlement

At the end of 2024, the total number of forcibly displaced people globally reached 123.2 million, almost double the number a decade ago. Geopolitical instability and the climate crisis are expected to only push these numbers higher in the future

Now, many of these families are taking the next step to new lives in the United States and it’s our turn to help.

You may have seen the Seattle Times article providing information and contacts for area organizations. One of them is Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS). For 80 years, LIRS has offered a welcome to our country, hope, and support to more than half a million refugees. They’ve pulled together support and goodwill from thousands of people to do this and they need our help now. For information about their efforts and how you can help, click below.
