LWR Spring Ingathering Recap
We had a very successful LWR Ingathering at Our Redeemer's LC on May 2 & 3. Thanks to all who stepped up to help, since I was not capable of many of the tasks. In particular, John Reese and Pastor Kristi helped park the incoming containers. John also helped load boxes the next two days, once on short notice when a delivery truck arrived a day early. Many of our loaders helped out in other roles on Friday and Saturday, distributing LWR forms and collecting Loading Forms. On Saturday the very capable crew (including Candy) continued without me, loading the container and sending it on its way.
Note that one large truck delivering for six churches on Saturday showed up at 11:00, just 30 minutes before closing, in a U-Haul rental. Unfortunately, the lock at the back was secured, and the driver had no key. Chris Thomsen zoomed home, got bolt cutters, and Rowland Adeniyi cut the lock. The LWR container was then sealed by Rowland and Brandon Hendrickson, and it drove out at 12:08 PM. Container pickup is normally 11:30.
When I realized I would not be able to greet the cars as they drove in on May 2, I had asked for help. It was very heartening that so many people stepped in to do different parts of the Ingathering. In the future, if any of you who read this want to volunteer again for what you did this time—or for other "jobs"—please do. We will, of course, be continuing the LWR Ingathering twice a year.
Thanks to the Men's Group for assembling 48 School Kits and 162 Personal Care Kits again. The tables were set up for assembling the day before, with much of the work being done by John Reese, Cindi Carlisle, and Candy Mathes. If you were unable to help pay for materials or shipping, you may still do that. QALCW accepts those contributions throughout the year.
